This is Perform with Dr. Andy Galpin. I'm Dr. Andy Galpin, a professor and director of the Human Performance Center at Parker University. With this podcast, my goal is to help you better understand and maximize your own physical and mental performance, leveraging my two decades of experience with elite performers, including Olympians and world champions across numerous sports. The goal is to cover a range of tools, technologies, and strategies designed to help everyone—from beginners to record-breaks, and everyone in between. While not all of us are elite athletes—myself included—there are countless lessons and tools we can learn from those performing at the highest levels. And remember, as legendary coach Bill Bowerman stated, "If you have a body, you are an athlete." If you're not already, I hope you'll consider starting to train and recover like one.

What listeners will find here

A practical fitness playbook for finding the one thing holding you back
Fitness goals are the focus here, from fat loss and stubborn muscle groups to recovery, biomarkers, and training on a busy schedule. Dan Garner lays out a measurement-first approach to identify your main bottleneck and adjust diet, training, and testing with less guesswork.
What testosterone tests really mean—and what they don’t
Testosterone is the focus here, from lab interpretation and low-T workups to muscle growth, aging, and TRT. Dr. Ben House argues that context matters more than chasing a higher number, with testing conditions, metabolic health, diet, sleep, and training all shaping the picture.
Testosterone, training, and aging—without the usual shortcuts
Testosterone and performance are the focus here, with a practical look at how body fat, underfueling, aging, and metabolic health can shift hormone levels. The episode also digs into testing, TRT decisions, muscle growth myths, and how protein and strength training fit in as you get older.
What Actually Makes You Faster, From First Step to Full Speed
Speed training gets unpacked far beyond the 40-yard dash, with Les Spellman explaining acceleration, deceleration, agility, and strength in practical terms. The episode connects sprint mechanics, cutting, lifting, recovery, and youth development into a clearer picture of how athletes really get faster.
A practical guide to training around pain without giving up strength
Back, shoulder, and knee pain take center stage as Dr. John Rusin explains how to train more comfortably and keep progressing. The episode blends rehab-minded advice with strength coaching, covering warm-ups, mobility, bracing, technique, and long-term performance.
