What listeners will find here
Hidden gardens, strange histories, and a Mesoamerican surprise in South London
Secret gardens are the subject here, from an abandoned walled space on Giudecca in Venice to a hidden corner of Plumstead. The episode promises unusual histories, eccentric characters, and a visit to a South London garden growing a slice of Mesoamerica behind closed doors.
Why high-maintenance gardening might be worth the effort
This episode explores an existential defence of high-maintenance gardening and asks why we chase ease when outdoor work can feel so rewarding. Expect reflections on effort, pleasure, and a dose of plant science with carex, meristems, and morphology.
