Hi, I’m Dax Shepard, and I love talking to people. I am endlessly fascinated by the messiness of being human, and I find people who are vulnerable and honest about their struggles and shortcomings to be incredibly sexy. I invite you to join me as I explore other people’s stories. We will celebrate, above all, the challenges and setbacks that ultimately lead to growth and betterment. What qualifies me for such an endeavor? More than a decade of sobriety, a degree in Anthropology and four years of improv training. I will attempt to discover human “truths” without any laboratory work, clinical trials or data collection. I will be, in the great tradition of 16th-century scientists, an Armchair Expert.

What listeners will find here
James McAvoy on Glasgow grit, early breaks, and the empathy behind the work

Wild nurse stories take over this Armchair Anonymous installment
Nurses are the focus here as Dax and Monica hear listeners’ craziest stories from the job. If you like Armchair Anonymous for its unpredictable, firsthand tales, this episode promises a fast-moving batch of medical-world chaos and surprise.
Adam Grant on why proximity, not algorithms, may shape your strongest connections
Strong connections are the focus as Adam Grant joins Dax to explore friendship, belonging, and what makes relationships last. The episode mixes personal stories with social science, from childhood exclusion and impostor feelings to why closeness can matter more than compatibility matching.
Dakota Fanning and Jake Johnson join a loose, funny ride through fame, dating, and zero-shame quirks
Dakota Fanning and Jake Johnson stop by Mom's Car for a wide-ranging, comic conversation with Dax and Aaron Weakley. The episode jumps from romantic movie nights and high-school backpacks to dating apps, ADHD-fueled hiking, and the odd realities of being recognizable in public.
Guillermo del Toro on monsters, making art under pressure, and what really matters
Guillermo del Toro talks with Dax about childhood fears, family upheaval, and the creative convictions behind films like Pan’s Labyrinth and The Devil’s Backbone. It blends vivid personal stories with a thoughtful look at monsters, craft, and why love matters more than acclaim.
